What this is

A long race is a long time with your hair in your face, and most people cannot braid their own properly. Someone else at your start line can, and would probably like theirs done too. BattleBraids Sisterhood is how the two of you find each other.

It is not a service and there is nobody to book. It is a way to find one other person who is going where you are going.

How it works

  1. Choose your race

    Search the calendar for the event you are travelling to, or add it if it is missing.

  2. Say what you need

    A few taps: when you are free, roughly where you will be, and what you are hoping for.

  3. See who fits

    We show people at the same race and say plainly why each one might work.

  4. Agree, then arrange

    Nothing private is shared until you both say yes. After that you sort out the time and place yourselves.

What we promise

  • Nothing is shared until you both say yes. Not your name in full, not your contact details, not where you are staying.
  • You choose what to show. A first name is plenty.
  • You can block or report anyone, from anywhere in the app, and you never have to explain why.
  • Meet at the race itself. The app suggests landmarks every event has, so neither of you has to give away an address.
  • After you have both agreed, you decide whether to swap a number or an email. It is one tap, it is only ever with that one person, and you can take it back.

What it costs

£0

Nothing. There is no booking fee, no subscription and no commission. The app takes no payment and holds no card details, so there is nothing to charge you for and nothing to argue about.

Open to everyone

The name celebrates the women who started this, and anyone can join, braid and be braided. No gender requirement, no experience requirement, no charge.

If you organise a race

This costs you nothing and asks nothing of you. Athletes find each other by event, agree to meet at a landmark your race already has, and arrange it in their own time. Nothing happens on your site, at your desk or in your inbox.

The calendar already carries 137 races. If yours is missing, anyone can add it.

Questions people ask

Is it really free?

Yes, and there is no paid tier waiting behind it. The app takes no payment at all.

Do I need to be good at braiding?

No. You say how confident you are, and the other person sees it before they agree. Plenty of people want a simple plait that holds, not a competition piece.

Is it only for women?

No. The name celebrates the women who started it. Anyone can join, braid and be braided.

What if nobody else is at my race?

Add yourself anyway. We email you when someone else turns up at the same event, and you will be the one already there.

What do you do with my data?

As little as possible. You can ask for a copy of everything we hold, or delete your account and everything in it, from your profile page.
